Associate Director - Utilities and Energy Management

Associate Director

Utilities & Energy Management 

Provides leadership for managing the daily operations of the Main Campus power complex, chilling stations 3, 4, 5, and 6, and the chilled water thermal energy storage (TES) facility along with the Pickle Research Campus chilling station and TES. Develops strategic and mission planning, internal controls, design modifications and upgrades, in addition to the preparation and administration of the plant operations budget.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Licensed Professional Engineer in a related discipline or the ability to obtain a license within 2 years. Five (5) years experience in energy management, engineering, power plant administration, supervision, and operations of which at least five (5) years shall have been in a managerial capacity. Working knowledge of electricity, steam, chilled water generation, and distribution systems, in operating and maintaining a combustion turbine based power plant, and managing a District Energy System. Class "C" Operator's Driver's License.

Preferred qualifications: Five years experience in the operations and maintenance of gas and steam turbines, industrial chillers, and associated equipment. Experience in the design, development, and troubleshooting of Ethernet communications systems that interface Ovation controls, Allen Bradley PLCs, human machine interfaces, and related systems.

Working conditions: May work in extreme temperatures, around chemicals and chemical fumes, and around electrical and mechanical hazards. May climb ladders. May be required to work in manholes and tunnels. Extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Associate Director, Operation and Support

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an experienced Associate Director to provide leadership for the Operations and Support division within the Project Management & Construction Services (PMCS) department.

This position will supervise the managers of the Procurement and Compliance, Construction Coordination, and Project Control and Customer Relations sections.

The Associate Director will lead managers and staff to provide timely, cost-effective, quality service that meets or exceeds the University client expectations. The position will provide effective personnel resource management through timely recruitment, training, motivation, and evaluation; exercise financial management developing a budget and monitoring compliance; and will design, implement, and monitor internal control systems in support of and in compliance with department and the University. This position will also work with the management team to develop and implement departmental strategic plan and long-range goals; develop measurement metrics and reporting systems to monitor and report performance; advise Director of the PMCS on administrative, personnel, and financial issues and ensure the Director is well-informed of all significant planned activities well in advance of execution.  The person chosen will be expected to encourage professional development and training opportunities and establish and maintain safety programs, meeting the needs of division staff, the department, and the University.

The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or business administration and seven years progressive experience in senior-level management in a medium to large size physical plant or facilities management organization. The position requires demonstrated ability to interact effectively with University administrators, deans, faculty, and staff providing good client or customer service to the University community.

Building Energy and Resource Steward - Multiple Positions (Technical Staff Associate)

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Building Energy and Resource Steward to meet aggressive energy/water/resource conservation goals in a large group of campus buildings through a technical understanding of building resource consumption/conservation and a behavior-based approach to engage building occupants in conservation.

The Building Energy and Resource Steward will engage and educate building occupants on a daily basis to achieve new behaviors that result in conservation. Routinely audit and walk buildings to understand how resources are measured and consumed. Coordinate with building operations, maintenance operations, engineering, and utilities staff to identify and resolve resource conservation issues and implement building schedules and other conservation measures. Perform basic calculations to determine resource consumption, savings, and life cycle cost analysis of conservation measures. Develop building occupant manuals that will educate occupants about their buildings and enable them to conserve resources. Organize and hold building events, such as building open house or orientation, to engage building occupants and promote the Energy and Resource Conservation program.

The candidate must have a high school graduation or GED. Eight years of experience in energy/water/resource conservation or building operations. Degree(s) in related field may be substituted for experience. Exceptional customer service skills, outgoing, and a master communicator. Demonstrated ability to maintain composure, positivity, and persistence in stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituents and workforce. Exceptional presentation skills. Strong computer skills, with specific knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Electrical Engineer, Intermediate

U T Health Science Center San Antonio, Facilities Management Department

This position is responsible for designing, operating and maintaining various electrical power systems, consulting with researchers in experimental settings, and reviewing construction drawings and specifications. Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, departmental financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.   

Job Duties:   

·         Designs electrical systems for building renovations and expansions   

·         Monitors maintenance of existing University electrical systems including medium voltage, low voltage, and specialty systems.   

·         Coordinates and operates electrical power equipment to switch, shutdown, and start up electrical systems to provide safe operation and maintenance. Inspects University construction and installation projects to ensure quality electrical and lighting systems. Conducts measurements of electrical loads, power factor, and harmonics. Conducts electrical power quality surveys and energy conservation investigations and initiates follow up projects.   

·         Documents all University electrical systems on AUTOCAD software program. Develops electrical guidelines and specifications. Develops short circuit, power flow, and relay coordination studies. Trains others in the concepts of electrical safety and electrical procedures.    Performs other duties as assigned.   

Qualifications:    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with three years’ experience, be a Registered Texas Professional Engineer or Engineering Intern (EIT) and pursuing Texas professional engineering registration.    Preferred Qualifications:   Registered Texas Professional Engineer is preferred. Be familiar with the NESC and the NEC.    Combination of relevant Education and Experience will be considered.

Mechanical Engineer (Project Manager)

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer, Project Manager to provide professional management in the planning, budgeting, scheduling, programming, design and renovation of existing University facilities.

The Mechanical Engineer will manage projects from inception to completion; estimate costs and completion time, design, request and monitor funding, produce bid documents, supervise consultants, administer the technical portion of the bid phase, oversee construction activity, and manage project closeout. This position will provide some engineering design and will manage outside professional service providers providing information on existing infrastructure and reviewing design documents to ensure compliance with the University’s published design and construction standards.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; three years of experience in design, installation, maintenance, operation, and the commissioning of large HVAC systems, industrial plants, or facilities mechanical systems; professional experience in renovation of laboratories, offices and other facilities, including HVAC and plumbing systems; and experience managing several projects and project services within restrictive time constraints.

Applicants must be licensed by Texas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers or eligible for licensure and obtain a license within one year of employment.
